The Animal Behavior College (ABC) Obedience Instructor Training Program
combines hands on training opportunities and a curriculum that stresses an
understanding of canine problem solving as well as being very solution
oriented. Decades of experience have taught us that while it is important
to understand what motivates a dog's behavior, a good instructor must have
numerous viable solutions at their disposal. Finally, we have endeavored
to provide you with the tools that will allow you to become an effective
communicator and teacher.
The ABC curriculum will instruct you how to use a variety of techniques to
teach obedience and correct behavior problems. You will learn that when
teaching a new behavior or new response to any dog, you must first guide,
rather than force, the dog into the correct behavior. Once the dog has
demonstrated a clear understanding of the command and elects to disobey,
you can use a variety of corrections. Before administering any correction
you will learn to take the individual dogs drives and sensitivities into
consideration. By using a balance of meaningful rewards, humane
corrections and an understanding of pack dynamics you will create an
extremely safe and effective training program. You will be instructed to
go beyond the mechanics of obedience commands and teach owners how to live
with their dog in a way that will encourage them to become an obedient
member of their family.
We hope the goal of every ABC certified graduate will be to educate dogs
and their owners so the dogs can have more fulfilling lives and the owners
can have a more pleasant pet owning experience.
